Applications open from Monday 19 October for new Communities Fund grants for community-led projects to help reduce carbon in the city.

A pot of £100,000 from the 2020-21 Communities Fund is being made available for innovative projects contribute to carbon reduction in the communities of Brighton & Hove.

We’re looking to support projects that promote active and sustainable travel, create and improve open spaces, support a ‘reduce, repair, reuse and recycle’ approach, or other ideas that contribute to the city’s pledge to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Applications will be open to locally-based community and voluntary organisations, and the planned project must be solely for the Brighton & Hove area.

How to apply

Applications to the funding are open from 19 October.

The maximum amount available for each project will be £10,000 and projects must be completed by 30 September 2021.

Funding can pay for core costs of the group or organisation, project costs or a combination of both, as well as small items of equipment costing up to £250 each.

The deadline for bids is Friday 27 November and applications need to be submitted via our Communities Fund online application portal. Details will be added from 19 October.

The decisions on funding will be announced in week beginning 18 January 2021.

If you have any questions about the fund or the bidding process, please get in touch with the Communities Team by emailing communitiesteam@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Becoming carbon neutral

Councillor Steph Powell, joint chair of the Tourism, Equalities, Communities & Culture committee, said:

“We’re committed to our city becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and need your help!

“We’re making this funding available to support community groups across the city to come up with innovative ideas to help lessen the city’s impact on the environment.

“So whether it’s planting trees, improving a community gardens or green space, or reducing food miles, please get your applications in. We look forward to seeing the results.”
