Eid Mubarak
To everyone celebrating Eid, in very different circumstances this year, I wish Eid Mubarak.
I am aware this has been a very difficult time for our Muslim community, who have been unable to celebrate Ramadan as they usually would.
At a time for coming together with family, friends and community, not being able to get together in person must be very challenging.
For Eid, it’s important to retain physical distancing to continue to protect lives.
As places of worship remain closed, the Muslim Council of Britain has produced some guidance on Celebrating Eid Al-Fitr during the Covid-19 lockdown.
I understand the disappointment many of our Muslim residents may feel at not being able to offer Eid Prayers collectively.
Through Ramadan, many have fasted to attain Taqwa, and I hope the discipline and moral resilience that are hallmark of Ramadan help to guide you through the Eid Celebrations and continue to protect each other.
Thanking our Muslim Community
I would like to thank our Muslim community for their part in supporting the residents of Brighton & Hove.
Covid-19 and the lockdown situation has impacted individuals, households, and communities – some of our diverse communities in particular.
Despite how this might be affecting you personally, whether being away from loved ones, loss of income, or other impacts, the work you are doing to ensure people do not go hungry and stay connected to each other is wonderful, thank you.
I wish everyone celebrating a safe and happy Eid.
