The council is working hard to ensure that businesses in Brighton & Hove get vital financial support they are entitled to during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since the government announced its grants scheme for small businesses, the council has paid out £63 million to more than 4,600 businesses in the city, and we’re still working through applications as they are received. These grants do not have to be paid back.
However, despite contacting every business we believe to be eligible for a grant, we estimate there are still up to 800 businesses that might be eligible and have yet to apply.
Councillor Nancy Platts, leader of the council, said: “Making sure our small businesses get the support they need is an absolute priority.
We urgently need businesses to claim
“These small business grants do not need to be paid back. They are available for all eligible businesses to help them keep afloat through the Covid-19 crisis.
“We urgently need businesses to claim so that we can ask government whether we can use any remaining money for businesses that have so far fallen between the cracks of the various government schemes.”
