Councillor Clare Moonan: “A plea for PPE”
We’re making an urgent appeal for donations of personal protective equipment, to help in the response against COVID-19.
You might have heard of Personal Protective Equipment being referred to as PPE, and you might also have seen in the media that there are concerns of a world-wide shortage. It’s affecting many countries, communities, and yes – our city.
PPE is essential for our care workers to continue caring for the most vulnerable people in our city, while reducing the risk of spreading the virus either to the people they care for, their colleagues, or their families back home.
Alongside our brave NHS health workers, our care workers and other frontline staff are critical in the nation’s battle against COVID-19, and this council is doing everything it can to ensure our staff have the PPE they need.
We’re being provided with new stock by NHS England, and we’ve been proactive in procuring additional supplies ourselves. However, with PPE in such high demand we want to do everything we can to ensure a strong supply to our front line services.
That’s why we’re calling for help from the city to donate PPE if they don’t have a current use for it.
We’re looking for items such as fluid repellent face masks, disposable latex gloves, eye goggles, plastic gowns, and hand sanitiser.
If you’re a business such as a tattoo parlour, health and beauty salon, construction, school or college, with spare PPE in storage that you’re not using, please consider donating to us. Residents may also have PPE at home that they don’t need, but which could help in the city-wide effort to care for the most vulnerable people.
Donations can be taken to Hove Town Hall where we’ll keep it safe, and ensure that front line staff have access to it. Please drop off donations between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday. For any queries please call our Switchboard on 01273 290000.
You can also help the city by sharing our plea for PPE to friends, family, and other businesses you think may be able to help.
Thank you for your donations.
