City’s young carers take centre stage

More than 100 young carers and their families will be attending a celebration event this evening (Thursday 30 January) at the Brighthelm Centre in central Brighton.

There will be awards for young carers that have been voted for by the young carers themselves, as well as some young carers that have been nominated by their schools.

The Young Carers Project will also be showcasing the great work it’s doing in the city.  And some of the city’s talented young carers will be performing.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes donated by Brighton Pier, Brighton Fringe Festival, Rottingdean and Saltdean Lions and Gamely Games.

Katie Shortt is a young carer family coach works in the council’s families, children and learning team. She said:

“We want to celebrate the amazing work young carers do supporting family members who may be ill or have a disability.

“We also want our young carers to know that we really appreciate the work they do.”
