Armed Forces Day 2020
This year’s national Armed Forces Day takes place tomorrow, Saturday 27 June.
It is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, many Armed Forces Day events have had to be cancelled.
You can still join in online by following the Armed Forces Day Facebook and Twitter channels for a programme of online events.
These include interviews with military personnel, performances from military bands, exclusive behind the scenes access and more.
If you know someone in the Armed Forces community, whether currently serving or a veteran, send them a message or give them a call to show your support for the work they do.
You can also share your photos by using #ArmedForcesDay on your posts.
Supporting the city's Covid-19 response
Army colleagues through the county’s Local Resilience Forum have been very supportive in providing weekly PPE supplies to use in care and health services in the city.
Army colleagues have also helped facilitate best practice sharing and sharing of PPE across Sussex local authorities.
Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, the Armed Forces champion for the council, said:
“Like many events this year, it’s a shame that celebrations to mark Armed Forces Day have been cancelled.
“However, it’s still a chance to show our support and appreciation for our Armed Forces – please do join in online if you can.”
“I’d also like to pass on thanks to army colleagues on behalf of the city grateful for their extremely responsive and supportive approach in helping us our response to Covid-19.”
