Adoption – we’d love to hear from you!
Brighton & Hove City Council is marking National Adoption Week with a call for people from as wide a range of backgrounds as possible to consider becoming adoptive parents.
The council is now part of the Adoption South East regional adoption agency. This is a group of councils working together to give vulnerable children the best possible chance of finding families that are a great match for them.
Adoption South East are particularly looking for adults who can offer a safe, loving and supportive home to:
- children in sibling groups
- older children
- children with complex health needs, and
- children from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
The chair of the council’s Children, Young People and Skills Committee, Councillor Hannah Clare, said:
“We want people to know that anyone aged 21 and above who would like to be an adoptive parent can be considered – regardless of their marital status, race, disability, sexuality or gender.
“We need people from all backgrounds who are compassionate, resilient and want to help make a very profound and positive difference to the lives of vulnerable children.”

Adoption South East brings together services from Brighton & Hove City Council and East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey county councils. The agency was launched in April. It hopes to broaden the range and increase the number of people considering adoption.
