Spring 2019 bus service changes
From 28 April 2019, there will be changes to some of the city’s bus services operated by The Big Lemon and Compass, as well as on Breeze bus routes, commercial bus routes and some routes serving schools.
We have worked closely with bus operators to ensure that residents across the city have access to key routes on the network and that any disruption is kept to a minimum.
New Big Lemon bus routes
Changes to The Big Lemon routes 16, 47, 52, 56, 57 and 66 will offer more efficient cross-city services and improvements which aim to attract more passengers and support the sustainability of the bus service into the future. The revised routes will operate initially on a one-year trial basis.
A new night bus
There will also be changes to Compass services 37 and 37B, which are council-funded and to Brighton & Hove Buses’ commercial services to include a new night bus route, the N21, which will serve Queen’s Park, Manor Hill, Whitehawk and Bristol Estate.
Breeze and buses to schools
The three Breeze bus routes, the 77, 78 and 79, which connect the city to the South Downs and a number of routes serving schools, including the council-funded services the 16A, 16B, 72, 74, 75, 76, 76A, 95, 95A and 70, 72A and 93, will also be revised.
Improved city centre bus stops
Changes to the city’s bus stops will mean that some services will have changed locations in the Churchill Square/Clock Tower and North Street areas of the city.
The changes are being introduced to improve the flow of buses and reliability of services. Another benefit will be better grouping of bus routes which serve many of the same destinations. These changes are being implemented by Brighton & Hove Buses, in partnership with other operators and the council.
The changes have been designed to improve the flow of buses, aiding air quality and pedestrian movements in the area and improving journey times for the many thousands of regular bus users.
