Carmen on 2 July
On July 2, award-winning director Barrie Kosky’s will present his exuberant take on Bizet’s beloved masterpiece Carmen, complete with cabaret numbers and high-kicking dancers.
The Marriage of Figaro on 9 July
On 9 July, Mozart’s greatest comedy, The Marriage of Figaro, will be given a sumptuous staging by director David McVicar for a performance that is described as a fast-moving, hilarious production with ravishing duets and emotionally potent arias.
A Royal Opera House initiative
The events are part of the Royal Opera House’s nationwide initiative to bring culture to key locations across the UK.
Alan Robins, chair of the council's Tourism, Development & Culture Committee says: “Our ambition for Brighton & Hove is to become a nationally recognised centre of excellence for arts and culture and for residents to benefit from what’s on offer.
“Music of all kinds is good for the soul and while you might not think opera is your cup of tea, this is an opportunity for everyone to try it for free. I’m hoping it will be picnic weather but if not, I’ve been advised to take a brolly!”
All the Royal Opera House BP Big Screens are rated 12A.
