Council support for young climate protestors
Young people in Brighton & Hove marching today (Friday 21 June) to raise awareness of the climate emergency facing the planet are being invited to meet council leader Nancy Platts.
Cllr Platts extends the invitation today as the next demonstration takes place across the world and in our city.
She said: “The climate emergency is the biggest challenge facing our planet.
“I really admire our young people for leading the way in raising awareness and trying to tackle it.
“I would simply ask everyone taking part to listen to police safety advice and take care of one another during the demonstration.
“I want to hear directly from young people about what they feel the council needs to do so I can make it happen. We’re setting up a new City Assembly to drive how we become a carbon neutral city by 2030. Young people need to be at the heart of our thinking.”
Cllr Platts will be arranging the meetings over the summer months.
