City’s A-level grades ‘far ahead’ of national average

Brighton & Hove A-level students have once again outperformed the national average this year.

Provisional results from the city’s seven education centres offering A-levels show that overall:

  • 31.2% of grades were A* or A – six percentage points above the average for England of 25.2%
  • 61.7% of grades were A* to B – more than ten percentage points higher than the England average of 51.1%
  • 98.5% of exams taken received pass grades (A* to E), exceeding national figures.

The chair of Brighton & Hove City Council’s children, young people and skills committee, Councillor Nick Childs, said:

“The city’s overall performance this year for A*-B grades in particular is breathtaking. I’m thrilled to see our city continuing to stay so far ahead of the game nationally.

“I’d like to thank school and college staff across the city and the council’s education team for the hard work they have put into getting these fantastic results.

“I’d also like to congratulate all our young people, and wish them the best of luck as they take the next steps in their lives.”

On A-level results day the council’s youth employability service is providing advice and support on their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts until 7pm.
