The GMB union has told the council this morning that their members at Cityclean – the council’s waste recycling service - have agreed the measures proposed aimed at averting strike action.
The measures were agreed through the ACAS process and ratified at a meeting yesterday of the council’s Policy, Resources & Growth (Urgency) Sub-Committee.
This means that the proposed strike action has been suspended and no industrial action will take place during Pride, the city’s biggest annual visitor event.
Industrial action was due to take place over seven days starting this Monday (29 July) which would have disrupted waste and recycling services to 120,000 city households as well as Pride.
A council spokesperson said: “We welcome the GMB’s decision to suspend strike action and are pleased there will be no disruption to the clean-up of rubbish during and after Pride.
“We look forward to continuing the discussions about improving our relationship with GMB.”
