It’s national Shared Lives week, and Brighton & Hove City Council’s Shared Lives team is looking for more carers like Sallyann Smith who can offer accommodation and support to people with disabilities.
Why not come to the team’s next information event on Wednesday 19 June from 10am to 3pm at The Brighthelm Café on North Road in central Brighton?
Sallyann looks after three people. She said:
“When you can communicate and share your life with somebody else, and you make a difference – you get so much back!
“They become happy. And it makes you happy!
“I have so much support from the Shared Lives team. They’re always at the end of a phone.”
All kinds of people can be Shared Lives carers: couples or singles, with or without children, home owners or tenants.
Some carers do it full-time, others on a short-breaks or sessional basis. It is similar to fostering.
