Apprenticeships joy at Brighton SEN specialist school

Downs View SEN Specialist School in Brighton is offering a fantastic career opportunity to graduates who have experience of working with or looking after people who have special educational needs and disabilities.

The school is one of the first in the country to advertise externally for Post Graduate Teacher Degree apprenticeship posts.

The school is offering four posts in conjunction with the University of Brighton and the council’s apprenticeships team. The apprenticeships come with a salary of £17,208. In addition, the school is paying the tuition fees – saving each apprentice  £9,000.

The appointments are full-time from June 2019. Applicants must be graduates and must have some experience of working with people who have special educational needs and disabilities.

Downs View is holding two open days for prospective candidates. You will need to attend one of them.

They are on Wednesday 27 March from 08.30 to midday; and on Monday 1 April from 12.30pm to 4pm. Please contact the school directly to book your visit.

The closing date for applications is midday on Monday 8 April.

Downs View deputy headteacher Rachel McDonald-Taylor said: “This isn’t just a fantastic offer for people wanting a career in special needs education. It’s also an exciting leap forward for us.

“By opening our apprenticeships up to people across the city, we’re hoping to tap into a huge, exciting pool of talent.”
