Welcoming new citizens

New citizens are welcomed to the city and the country at monthly celebratory ceremonies conducted by the council's register office team.

New British citizens are invited to meet local dignitaries and to receive their certificates of naturalisation. People from all over the world join together for the 45 minute ceremony followed by tea and cake.

Applications for citizenship are handled by the Home Office with the local ceremony being the final step in the process.

At this month's ceremony, 68 people became citizens in a moving and happy celebration held at the council chamber at Brighton Town Hall.
