Families are settling into eight new council homes in Hollingdean – the latest in a series of developments providing more council housing in the city.
Six large four-bedroom houses have been built in Salehurst Close, Hollingdean, along with two two-bedroom flats in nearby Lynchet Close.
The development was officially opened by Councillor Anne Meadows, chair of the Housing and New Homes Committee.
The homes are close to schools, the local children’s centre and Hollingdean Park. They have been let through Homemove, the council's choice based lettings system.
Cllr Meadows said: “These are the first four-bedroom houses we’ve built in our New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme, which is providing much needed council homes on council land. It’s great to see families moving into the homes and settling into the local community.”
New Homes for Neighbourhoods aims to build at least 500 new homes for rent. Schemes completed this year include 57 flats at Kite Place in Whitehawk, 29 flats at Hobby Place in Whitehawk, and 45 flats at Brooke Mead extra care scheme in Albion Street,Brighton
Work is underway on more new council homes and other schemes are in the pipeline.
