More opportunities to help Madeira Terrace!

The city’s crowdfunding campaign for Madeira Terrace was a huge success, and within four months the council, together with residents, community organisations, and businesses, raised over £460k. The money raised will go towards restoring three of the 151 Madeira Terrace arches.

Work is already underway to appoint a design team, and bid for £250k of heritage lottery funding has been submitted.

As well as crowdfunding, a community raffle with over 600 prizes donated by local businesses raised almost £17k. The raffle is thought to be the biggest the city has ever seen and so successful that the organiser, Jax Atkins, has organised another to be drawn in June. For more information about where to buy tickets, or the prizes available, have a look at the Save Madeira Terrace Facebook group or email Jax Atkins at chemicaljax@ntlworld.com about the raffle.

The community is also continuing to make sure the area behind the fenced off sections of Madeira Terrace are not neglected. Members of the Madeira Terraces & Black Rock Past, Present & Future Facebook group are among the team of volunteers that meet once a month to pick up litter and tend the Green Wall at the back of the terrace. The next community clean up is on Saturday 28 April, so if you'd like to come along and help, please contact Jax Atkins.

Local brewer Brighton Bier is also donating 25% of profits from the sale of its specially created ‘Mabiera’ Pale Ale to the restoration fund.

The council has set up a restoration fund so that people can still donate money and continue to hold fundraising events. Details can be found at www.visitbrighton.com/save-madeira-terrace.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Save Madeira Terrace campaign so far. And if you’d like to be involved in future plans, please get in touch by emailing us at madeira.terrace@brighton-hove.gov.uk
