We want to know what you think about proposed transport improvements to locations around Hangleton as part of the Safer Routes to School scheme.
Proposals include better walking and cycling links between Hangleton and Portslade on Hangleton Way and in Benfield Valley, and changes outside Hove Park Lower School at one end of Hangleton Way and West Blatchington Primary at the other. Changes are also suggested on Amberley Drive, Poynings Drive and Downland Drive.
The Safer Routes to School Scheme, a joint initiative involving the local authority, school staff, pupils, parents and local residents, has been running in the city since 2004. It aims to reduce the dependency on the car for the school journey, by improving the area around the school and making routes to school safer for children and their parents/carers to walk or cycle.
In September 2019, the King’s School will move from its present temporary premises in High Street, Portslade, to the site of West Blatchington Primary and Nursery School, in Hangleton Way. The plans to move the school to its new site were approved by the council’s Planning Committee in September 2017.
We want to improve road safety for children, parents and carers walking, scooting and cycling to schools in the Hangleton area as well as encourage bus use. We’ve identified 11 potential locations for improvements and we want your views on the proposals.
A report on the consultation results, with recommendations for the final scheme, will be put to the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee on 27 November.
The survey runs from 10 September until 1 October 2018.
Paper versions of the survey are available from Hangleton Library, The King’s School (Portslade) & West Blatchington Primary school or call 01273 290235.
