Budget 2018/19

For the latest information about our budget read the Proposals published for Budget Council 2018/19 news release, dated Wednesday 14 February.

The latest financial information for next year’s council budget has been made public today. You can read the report in the 8 February Policy, Resource & Growth committee papers (item 102).

The updated General Fund Revenue Budget, Council Tax and Capital Investment Programme 2018/19 has now been published ahead of discussion next week at the Policy Resources and Growth Committee on Thursday 8 February. The budget will then go forward for debate at the Full Budget Council on Thursday 22 February 2018 when all 54 councillors will vote on the proposals for the financial year ahead.

The latest version of the report includes recommendations to:

  • Increase council tax by 2.99% for 2018/19 plus the 3% Adult Social Care Precept, following the government announcement in the Local Government Finance Settlement in December allowing this additional rise in council tax
  • Invest an additional £12.8million in priority services including adult social care, children’s social care and community grants for the voluntary sector

The budget gap of £1.26million (as shown in the report presented at the previous Policy, Resources and Growth committee in November 2017) has been bridged through a combination of the proposed rise in council tax and updated information which becomes available as we move further through the financial year.
