North Street road works
Southern Water has started essential work on North Street, Brighton.
The works will repair reinstatements that were originally done around 10 years ago and will include resurfacing of the full width of the road from the Queens Road junction to just before the East Street junction. It is expected to take eight weeks.
North Street will be closed at the junction with Queens Road for the duration of the works. Within the closure the work will be carried out in three phases, starting at the west end of the street and moving eastwards.
The council and Southern Water have ensured that access for deliveries will be maintained, and Southern Water have been in touch with all businesses and residents within the affected area to make sure that their individual requirements are taken into account as much as possible.
You can find more information, including diversion route information for each phase, on Southern Water’s website.
The bus companies were consulted during the planning of these works and bus services are on diversion along the seafront. The council is phasing traffic lights to ease the flow of traffic as much as possible. Council officers are will be on site regularly to monitor both the progress of the works and the impact on traffic.
We are also giving other utility companies the opportunity to carry out any work they need to do to their apparatus in North Street during the closure.
