Madeira Terrace campaign gets Eddie Izzard's vote at Party Conference

The crowdfunding campaign to raise money towards the restoration of Brighton’s seafront Madeira Terrace is now at 921 pledges.  Comedian and activist, Eddie Izzard showed his support for the campaign yesterday by posing for a selfie at the Labour Party Conference which is being held at the Brighton Centre this week 24-27 September 2017.

Local businesses including the Golden Lion Group, PR firm, Magenta Associates, building company Baobab Developments and project advisors Orion Heritage are among the latest to pledge money to the campaign that launched in July and has a target of £430k to reach before 30 November 2017.

Luke Johnson, entrepreneur and owner of Brighton Palace Pier who has also pledged £5k to the campaign, said: "Madeira Terrace is an iconic feature of the Brighton seafront and deserves to be restored to its full Victorian glory. I'm delighted to support the campaign to renew the beautiful cast iron arches, and enable the space to be purposeful once more."

Howard Barden from VisitBrighton who is leading the campaign said: “We’re delighted with the public response to the campaign and thank everyone who has given their time or money to help keep the pledges coming in.  Madeira Terrace is an integral part of our seafront history and we are doing our upmost to ensure it remains a key part of the city landscape into the future.

“We’re now at the halfway point in the campaign so still have a substantial amount of money to raise, and I would urge everyone who cares to contribute in any way they can.”
