Improved park opens for summer holidays
Families in Rottingdean are celebrating the re-opening of their new improved play and sports areas – just in time for the school holidays!
Rottingdean Recreation Ground is due to re-open next week (July 17) with new facilities including a large swing with accessible seat, and new balance equipment. The basketball court and table tennis facilities have also been improved.
The works, which cost around £23,000, are the result of joint working and partnership funding which includes £12,582 S106 developer contributions from the Newlands Road development, £6,770 from the Co-op Community Fund, £3,248 from PARC (Play Area in Rottingdean Committee) and £400 from Rottingdean Parish Council.
The opening also marks the PARC charity’s 20 years ‘anniversary’ of involvement in Rottingdean, Saltdean and Ovingdean.
Councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the environment committee said: “It’s great to see communities pulling together to improve their local park at a time when budgets are so tight.
“Getting funding from external sources, combined with the fantastic work of groups like PARC, is vital for the future of all our parks and open spaces.”
Graham Sheppard of Rottingdean Parish Council added: "All age groups will benefit enormously from these wonderful improvements to our local leisure facilities."
