Residents and businesses in Brighton & Hove are being asked for their views on how the city’s business rates relief scheme should be targeted.
On 1 April this year the government implemented its nationwide revaluation of all business rates properties. For some ratepayers this resulted in significant increases in business rates.
The council has no control or influence over the implementation of the new rateable values.
The government has given councils funding to implement discretionary rate relief. In Brighton & Hove this amounts to £1.93m over four years, with £1.3m to be spent in year one.
The aim of discretionary rate relief is to provide additional support for those most severely affected by revaluation.

The consultation closes on September 18.
