More community groups and residents in Brighton & Hove have been signing up for this year’s Great British Spring Clean,
Working with support from Brighton & Hove City Council, residents will be getting together to tackle litter hotpots in Waterloo Street and Hodshrove Woods.
The council is encouraging residents businesses and community groups to get tough on grime and clean up the city’s litter hotspots.
Equipment, including gloves litter pickers, brooms and sacks will be provided for anyone wanting to run or take part in an event and help rid the city of unsightly rubbish. The events are part of the year’s Great British Spring Clean, organised by the Keep Britain Tidy group.
The Waterloo Street event, on Saturday March 4th ,will see residents meet in the community garden at 11am, before moving to other areas.
The Hodshrove Woods clean-up will take place on March 5 from 10am to 1pm with volunteers meeting at the play ground. This event follows last year’s successful ‘Clean for the Queen’ event which saw groups of adults and teenagers spending four hours picking up rubbish from the woodland.
Councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee said: “It’s great to see communities coming together to join the Great British Spring Clean and help us tidy up their neighbourhoods.
“Not only are they improving the appearance of the city, they are also encouraging residents to take more care of their local environment too.”
The council is keen to hear from anyone wanting to organise a clean-up event in their local area during March and can provide a member of staff to co-ordinate if needed. The council can also provide posters for communities and businesses to promote their events.
Anyone wanting to organise, or take part in an event should contact the Projects team on 01273 294726 or 01273 292929. contractscityservices@brighton-hove.gov.uk
