Veterans invited to join Armed Forces Day parade
A veterans’ parade, exhibition and street entertainment are being held in New Road, Brighton on Saturday June 25 to mark Armed Forces Day.
The parade of veterans and cadets will start at 11am, with a Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, James May, and the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Pete West, in attendance.
Anyone who has been in the services is welcome to take part in the parade and should gather in Jubilee Street at 10.30am.
An exhibition featuring the Royal British Legion, the Royal Sussex Regiment Association, Blind Veterans UK, the Chattri Memorial Group, and others, will be held in the Brighton Dome Studio Theatre from 9.30am to 2pm, with poetry readings also taking place.
Music entertainment will be provided in New Road from 12 noon until 2pm, and armed forces charities will have information stalls from 10am to 2pm.
Earlier in the week, on Monday June 20, a flag raising ceremony is being held at the Old Steine War Memorial at 11am. This will be attended by Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, Michael Foster and the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Cllr Peter West.
The events are being organised by Brighton & Hove City Council, the Royal British Legion and other partners.
