Green Carpet Event Builds its Eco Home in Brighton
A ceremony to honour those involved in pioneering eco practices, the P.E.A. (the People Environment Achievement) awards, is being held in Brighton & Hove for the second year in a row.
The winners will be announced at a glamorous green carpet event on 7 October 2016 at Brighton’s brand new BA i360 attraction.
The national event was brought to Brighton & Hove last year by the Council’s convention bureau VisitBrighton who secured the Brighton Centre for the event’s inaugural year outside London.
The P.E.A awards honour those who have demonstrated the importance of sustainability in a range of categories, including travel and tourism, arts, energy, building, education, business and community.
The event presents an opportunity for guests to network with high-flying sustainability leaders and hear from keynote speakers including Co-leader of the Green Party, Caroline Lucas. A locally sourced vegan dinner will be served alongside signature drinks from Juniper Green organic gin and locally brewed Bison Beer. Tickets costing from £65 are available from the PEA website
A programme of plenary talks, panel discussions and case studies to inspire businesses to work towards a low carbon economy, will also take place at the BAi360, in the afternoon before the P.E.A. awards. The event, coordinated by the Eco Technology Summit, is aimed at businesses and organisations looking to adopt and expand environmental and renewable energy practices.
Commenting on the events, P.E.A. organiser Jarvis Smith said: “Brighton is an ecologically switched on city and a perfect fit for hosting our celebration of pioneers.
“The record number of entries we’ve had this year affirms the surge in UK residents taking to the streets, forests, oceans, offices and schools to demonstrate how sustainable, alternatives can effectively challenge traditional and outdated policies.”
Julia Gallagher, BHCC’s head of sales for tourism and venues, said; “We’re delighted that the PEA awards have chosen Brighton for the second year in a row. The event highlights the city’s eco-credentials among conference and event organisers and will bring benefit to the local economy in terms of additional visitor spend and bed nights booked at local hotels.”
Now in its sixth year, the P.E.A. (People. Environment. Achievement) Awards, in association with Mongoose Energy, celebrates the green heroes who are taking matters into their own hands and providing inspiring alternatives to business as usual. These sustainability pioneers are recognised and rewarded at a glamorous green carpet event with music, entertainment and ethical food and drink.
The categories for 2016’s P.E.A. Awards are: Arts, Fashion, Film, Music; Best of the South West; Britain’s Greenest Family; Business; Energy; Food; Health; Homes; Money; Pioneers; Regional; Resources; Technology; Transport; Travel.
