Brighton & Hove City Council’s specialist pre-school services for children with special educational needs have once again been judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
The two specialist nurseries involved are the Jeanne Saunders Centre in Palmeira Avenue, Hove; and Easthill Park House, in Easthill Park, Portslade. They have both been judged outstanding in all areas, namely:
- quality of teaching, learning and assessment
- personal development, behaviour and welfare
- outcomes for children
- effectiveness of the leadership and management.
Inspectors found that staff at both nurseries have extremely close bonds with pupils. This supports children’s emotional well-being and gives them a highly secure base from which to flourish.
The inspectors also highlighted the exceptional partnerships both services have both with parents and with other support services for the pupils.
Sue White manages both the Jeanne Saunders Centre and Easthill Park House. She said:
“Our staff are really hard-working and dedicated. I’m delighted that Ofsted has once again recognised their expert knowledge and understanding of how our children learn and how best to support them to maximise progress.”
The chair of the council’s children and young people committee, Councillor Tom Bewick, said: “I’m thrilled that the inspectors have seen for themselves the immense benefits our children get from the stimulating and challenging experiences they enjoy at these pre-school settings.
“I’d like to thank all the staff at both centres for the exceptional support and guidance they offer their pupils, and also for their commitment to working in genuine partnership with parents.”
