Asking views on special educational needs provision
The council is committed to providing all children in Brighton & Hove with the best chances to learn and develop. Last week the Children, Young People and Skills committee discussed changes to the education and support for children with special needs in the city. The debate is part on an ongoing consultation with families, special schools’ staff and governors, charities and education specialists to further improve the high quality provision available in the city.
The next stage is to consult on two key proposals:
- Extending of the age range of pupils for Hillside and Downs View Special Schools to include from the age of two years a small number of children with the most severe and complex needs
- The closure of Patcham House School and the opening of a new Special Facility in mainstream Secondary School
