15 years and counting for Hove volunteer Louise
A Hove woman who has a learning disability has marked National Volunteer Week by celebrating 15 years of volunteering at the Red Cross shop in Hove.
Louise Hyslop works in the store on Blatchington Road every Tuesday and is its longest serving volunteer.
Her employment has been supported jointly by the Red Cross and Brighton & Hove City Council’s supported employment team.
The manager of the Red Cross shop, Elena Mirea, said: “Louise is a hero behind the scenes for us. I hope she stays for another 15 years.”
Louise’s employment officer at the council, Suzette Attwood, said: “Being a volunteer for 15 years is a great achievement for anyone, and particularly for someone who has a learning disability.
“We’re delighted for Louise and we’d also like to thank the Red Cross for the commitment they have shown to supporting her.”
