Healthy roadshow at Portslade school is snack-tastic!
Children at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Portslade are showing off their skills in making healthy snacks for themselves and their families at a special roadshow on Thursday 19 March.
Children from each year group at the school will be presenting healthy snacks they have designed themselves to parents and fellow pupils. They and their guests will also be trying to win a special raffle with a ‘healthy hamper’ as the prize.
The roadshow event follows research the pupils have conducted themselves into what kind of foods are healthy, what people like to eat, and what snacks pupils at the school are already bringing in to eat in the playground.
The pupils are making posters and leaflet to advertise their snacks and the roadshow event, and will also be leading an assembly on healthy snacks on Monday 26 March.
The event is part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s public health schools programme. The manager of the programme, Lydie Lawrence, said: “The best way to get children learning about healthy eating is to get them involved and make it lots of fun.
“For us it’s not just about telling them what foods to eat, it’s about getting them involved in discovering new healthy foods and new combinations of food for themselves.”
