Waterfront
At the Policy and Resources Committee meeting today, 16 December 2014, there was unanimous all party support for a proposal that could deliver a major new multi-use venue on the Black Rock site, alongside new homes, better transport and a major expansion of the city’s shopping offer through an extension of the Churchill Square shopping centre.
Commenting on the outcome, Geoffrey Bowden, chair of the cross party project board, said: “The proposal presents a multitude of opportunities not only for the enhancement of the seafront but for lifting the ambitions of the city as a national and international destination.
“While this is a very positive step forward, as with all ambitious projects, there is still a long way to go. Today’s decision means officers have now been given the green light to negotiate the development agreement with the project partners Standard Life Investments and Venue Ventures, with a view to signing it as soon as practically possible in 2015.”
