Hove primary school expansion gets go-ahead
Plans have been approved to expand St Andrew’s CE primary school in Hove by one form of entry in September 2015.
Brighton & Hove City Council is now set to submit a planning application for the new building.
The expansion has been backed by the school’s governing body and by the Diocese of Chichester.
The council’s children and young people committee gave the plan the go-ahead after considering the responses made to statutory notices published in September.
The plans were changed following concerns expressed by parents and governors through an initial consultation before the statutory notices were published.
In particular, the plan is now to provide the new classrooms on the northern end of the Haddington Street car park, which is adjacent to the school, rather than on the school playgrounds.
The chair of the council’s children and young people committee, Councillor Sue Shanks, said: “There is a need for more primary age school places in south and central Hove, and I’m delighted that the governors and the Diocese have been supportive of our plans.
“We have an excellent track record in delivering school building projects on time and on budget. We are committed to working closely with the school to minimise disruption to the school while the building works take place.”
