Council standards panel meets October 6

Brighton & Hove City Council’s Standards Panel will meet on Monday October 6 to hear two separate allegations that Councillor Ben Duncan has failed to comply with the council’s Code of Conduct for Members.

Both allegations relate to tweets issued by Councillor Duncan earlier this year, one relating to the Armed Forces Day, the other relating to Islam.

The Panel consists of Councillors Leo Littman, Ann Norman, and Jeane Lepper; and also Dr David Horne as Chair and Independent Person.

The council’s Independent Person is a statutory appointee whose chief role is to advise the Standards Panel before it makes a decision on an allegation of a breach of the members’ code of conduct which has been formally investigated. The Independent Person chairs the Standards Panel but does not vote.
