Applications are being invited for traders to lease and run a stall in Brighton’s redeveloped Open Market on the London Road.
Both temporary and permanent pitches will be available when the market re-opens - currently scheduled for November.
The newly-refurbished market will provide a platform for local traders and producers, with a focus on promoting fresh, healthy food, organic and ethically-sourced produce and eco-friendly goods.
There are 45 permanent stalls arranged around the new covered market space, varying in size from 140 sq ft to 437 sq ft – many with a yard which can be used for trading. Average rents are £15.50 per square foot per year. Temporary stalls, measuring 8ft by 4ft are available from £20 a day.

The new market will be run by the Brighton Open Market community interest company (CIC), which has representatives from the market traders, the council, The Ethical Property Company and housing association The Hyde Group (“Hyde”) who have developed the site. There are also independent directors.
Traders will benefit from CCTV, full-time cleaners, toilets, waste disposal, regular advertising, a website, visiting themed markets and an arts programme in the central square which will help to increase footfall and drive trade.

The market itself will be a place which has regular, loyal customers as well as becoming a magnet for visitors. It will be a vital component in seeing a revival in the fortunes of the London Road.
