Brighton Your Futures 2014

Brighton Your Futures 2014 - creating sustainable regeneration within the Brighton & Hove area.

The innovative and dynamic jobs fair, ‘Brighton Your Futures’, is back at the Brighton Dome on 3rd April 2014. The fair aims to help young people access new careers and training and is being managed by 3D Change a social enterprise which encourages regeneration by tackling unemployment through local initiatives.  ‘Brighton Your Futures’ aims to provide long term solutions to challenge youth unemployment, promote economic growth and encourage sustainability within local communities throughout the Brighton and Hove area.The partners which includes Brighton & Hove City Council, Youth Employability Service of the Council, Affinity Sutton Housing Association, City College, DWP, National Apprenticeship Service, Brighton and Hove Jobs and 3D Change are targeting the jobs fair at residents who are 14-25 years old and currently unemployed. Young job seekers will be placed directly in front of employers so that the employers can tap into young talent and fill their vacancies with willing and eager candidates.

Sue Shanks Chair of the Children & Young people committee says “ This is a another way we are helping to give young people a chance of employment opportunities ‘Brighton Your Futures’ will put young people in touch with employers, training providers and educational establishments, allowing them to identify relevant employment entry opportunities.”

The jobs fair will offer an array of workshops, including those covering topics such as support and guidance on being an apprentice, talks about working in different job sectors from young people themselves and inspirational speakers. As with the ethos of 2013 this event will continue to consult with the young people in Brighton, so further developing this initiative. ‘Brighton Your Futures’ will work closely with employers and local businesses helping them to meet their recruitment requirements. It will enable young people to have access to relevant and valuable information, and gain an understanding of what employers will be able to provide.  As Moira Skinner, Managing Director of 3D Change explains, “Young people will be able to take the information and adapt it to future employment opportunities. It’s all about giving them the chance to meet the employers”

 ‘Brighton Your Futures’ is an opportunity for social enterprises, public and private sector companies and organisations to develop a strong partnership and promote their products and services to other local businesses.All employers involved will contribute an Action to Work Initiative which could take the form of either a part or full time employment position, an apprenticeship position, structured work experience or volunteering. This event will also offer the opportunity to access a business networking session before doors open.Moira Skinner concludes “BYF 2013, saw a footfall in excess of 1000 young visitors and in excess of 80 organisations exhibiting. We are aiming to get even more exhibitors and opportunities for BYF 2014 which will in turn increase the interaction and excitement amongst young people and promote awareness of businesses and organisations that are looking to recruit”

Brighton Your Futures is a unique initiative with a unique approach with private, public and social enterprise all working in partnership to support Brighton & Hove's young people.
