Primary schools in Brighton & Hove are celebrating a big leap forward in overall performance at Key Stage 2 – the national tests taken by year 6 pupils.
Across the city the percentage of pupils attaining Level 4+ in reading, writing and maths combined has gone up to 79% - equivalent to a five percentage point rise over last year.
The city is also well ahead of the national average in achievement above age-related expectation, with 24% of the city’s pupils achieving Level 5+ against a national level of 21%.
The chair of the council’s children and young people, Councillor Sue Shanks, said: “I’m very pleased that we are continuing to improve overall performance here year on year and stay ahead of the game nationally.
“These results reflect Ofsted’s view that at primary level we are among the very top performing local authorities in the south east.”
