Act now on secondary school admissions
If you have a child who is due to start secondary school in Brighton & Hove next September, now’s the time to act.
The deadline for applications for the city’s secondary schools, academies and free school for next year is Thursday October 31 at 3pm.
Visit Brighton & Hove City Council’s website at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/schooladmissions to apply online.
You’ll find all the guidance and advice you need on the city’s secondary catchment areas and admissions process.
The chair of the council’s children and young people committee, Councillor Sue Shanks, said: “Applying on time is vital. Every year there are some people who are not offered a place at any of their preferred schools simply because they missed the applications deadline.
“We recommend applying online as it means you automatically get your notification straight away instead of waiting for a letter in the post, and because it saves money on postage and printing costs.”
Over the last five years everyone who has included their catchment area school or schools in their preference list has been offered either a school in their catchment area or a higher preference.
Parents who do not wish to apply online should contact the council’s school admissions team at schooladmissions@brighton-hove.gov.uk or on (01273) 293653 for a hard copy of the application pack.
Parents who feel they need extra help with the admissions process – perhaps because English is not their first language or they have only just moved to the city – can phone (01273) 290355 for impartial support.
