About modification orders
These orders relate to Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Stanmer bridleway BW B103 - legal event Modification Order 2022
This Order is made by Brighton & Hove City Council under Section 53(2)(b) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 ("the Act"). It appears to that authority that the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way in Brighton & Hove require modification in consequence of an event specified in section 53 (3) (a) (iii) of the Act. Namely, the coming into operation of any enactment or instrument, or any other event, whereby a new right of way has been created over land in the area to which the map relates, being a right of way such that the land over which the right subsists is a public path or a restricted byway.
Brighton & Hove City Council is the only local authority whose area includes land to which this Order relates.
Brighton & Hove City Council hereby order that:
- For the purposes of this Order the relevant date is 1 June 2022
- The Brighton (Downland) Definitive Map and Statement shall be modified as described in the Schedule and shown on the plan forming part of this Order ("the Order Plan")
- This Order shall take effect on the date it is made and may be cited as "The Brighton & Hove (Stanmer Bridleway BW B103) Legal Event Modification Order 2022"
Modification of Definitive Statement Variation of particulars of path or way.
The Statement for Stanmer B103 shall be amended as follows:

- status - bridleway
- pap reference TQ32497 09953 to TQ33872 10259
Bridleway B103 commences at OS grid reference TQ 32497 09953 shown as point A on the Order Plan.
It runs in a south easterly direction for 1841m, then in a north easterly direction for 207m, then in a south easterly direction for 177m, then in a north easterly direction for 221m, then in a north westerly direction for 177m, then in a north easterly direction for 264m, then in a north westerly direction for 1080m terminating at OS grid reference TQ 33872 10259 shown as point B on the Order Plan.
The bridleway has a width of 2.5 to 3 metres.
Executed as a deed by affixing the Common Seal of Brighton & Hove City Council, on the day of 2022 in the presence of an authorised officer.
