Responsibilities

The Seafront Office is responsible for:

  • advice and enforcement of the bylaws
  • operating the lifeguard service (seasonal)
  • beach huts and boat lockers
  • seafront playgrounds
  • seafront maintenance and repairs
  • the Bandstand
  • seafront sports facilities

The seafront area we cover is from Hove Lagoon through to Saltdean Undercliff. The office is open to the public to seek for safety advice, lost property enquiries and information on how to book seafront facilities.

We are able to support incidents of lost or found children and work closely with the local police on tackling anti-social behaviour.

The Seafront Office also helps with events along the coastline, as well as the upkeep of various council-owned seafront properties.

See more information on the rules of the seafront and sea here.

The Seafront Officers are trained lifeguards. Each quad bike they use is equipped with an AED (automated external defibrillator), oxygen and a first aid kit to respond to incidents.
