Plant a commemorative tree with the Tree Trust
Find out how to have a tree planted in one of our parks to mark a birth, anniversary or bereavement.
Planting a tree
Planting a tree lets you mark a birth, anniversary or bereavement. Trees improve the appearance of the city while fighting pollution and supporting wildlife.
Through the Tree Trust Fund you can donate:
the full cost of planting a specific tree (parks)
an amount of your choice towards the city’s tree planting
What we charge
It costs £395.10 to plant a tree sourced by us in one of our available parks. This does not include tree planting on streets / highways.
The cost includes maintenance such as watering, staking, and a guarantee to replace the tree if it fails within its first year.
When we plant trees
The main tree planting season is from November to March - dependent on weather conditions.
The cut-off date for applications this season is 30 September 2024.
If we receive your request after 30 September, your request will be logged for the following planting season.
Tree planting locations
Find a list of parks and open spaces available for donation planting. These are subject to surveys and spaces available.
Tell us on the submission form to enquire about a different park for planting. We will check availability.
You can choose a first and second preferred species of tree to be planted. This will be subject to availability from our suppliers. We will offer an alternative species if it is not possible to source what has been requested. We only plant trees sourced from our own suppliers due to biosecurity measures and preventing risk of further infection in the city’s tree scape.
Things you need to know
We do not permit memorial plaques, or the scattering of ashes around any donation planting – cremation ash contains high PH and salt levels and can be harmful to the tree, and surrounding environment.
You can be involved in the planting of your tree. We can offer you a time slot during the planting season to attend.
This is on Tuesday to Thursday, 10:30am to 2:30pm.
This is based on availability from our grounds staff – if there is any change or complication with us meeting a preferred planting date, we will contact the donator as soon as possible regarding the change.
Any celebratory event or gathering is to be organised by the donator of the tree. We'll only carry out the planting on the day.
