To ensure there's room for both people and wildlife to enjoy Waterhall Local Nature reserve, we ask that everyone follows these simple guidelines:
-
Please follow the Countryside Code.
-
You should keep your dog on a lead across the reserve. This is so we don't disturb wildlife such as ground-nesting skylarks and basking reptiles. Find out more about how keeping your dog on a lead will help Waterhall Local Nature Reserve recover and thrive.
-
Always bag and bin your dog poo and take all litter home. Litter can cause injury to livestock and wildlife. Dog waste can contain harmful parasites that can pass on to livestock and people.
-
Please don't feed any of the livestock. They are doing an important job, grazing across the reserve. They feed on some of the tougher plants to help restore less hardy chalk grassland plants.
-
Give livestock plenty of space. If you feel threatened by cattle getting too close, stay calm and slowly retreat. If you have a dog with you, let go of the lead. Releasing your dog will make it easier to reach safety.
-
Check our Livestock Action Plans at each entrance. These have contact information to report any concerns you have about the welfare of our animals.
