About Libraries Extra
You can use a library during Libraries Extra for regular library activities, including:
- reading
- relaxing
- conversation
- playing board games
- using the free wifi
- studying
During Libraries Extra hours you can:
- use the self-service kiosks to borrow, return and renew items
- make cash payments through the self-service kiosks
- use the computers and printing facilities
During Libraries Extra hours, we monitor the libraries through CCTV and live audio.
If you need help during Libraries Extra hours you can use the phone next to self-service machines to speak to a member of library staff. You don’t need to dial, just pick up the phone.
If there is an emergency, you can use the intercom (a yellow box on the wall) to contact our security company.
How to become a Libraries Extra member
You can use the Libraries Extra services if you are 16 and over. To use Libraries Extra, you’ll need to upgrade your normal library membership card. You can do this for free at any library by speaking to a member of staff.
You'll need to prove your identity, so bring 2 items that show your name and address.
You can also prove your identity with 1 item that shows your name and address, and your library card.
We’ll also ask you to agree to the terms and conditions of a Libraries Extra membership. We will also explain how to use this service.
When you can use Libraries Extra
Libraries Extra means you’ll be able to use most of our libraries seven days a week.
