Public Art Trail 2 - Brighton Town Centre continued
This trail is designed to follow on from Public Art Trail 1 and visits public artworks around East Brighton.
It takes approximately 1 hour depending on whether you catch a bus for the final stage.
Phoenix Rise Artworks
From the Urban Art Wall head south on Cheapside towards London Road.
Cross straight over London Road and along St. Peter's Place with St. Peter's Church on your right.
Cross Lewes Road and turn right.
Turn left on to Albion Hill and left again at Phoenix Rise where you will find Phoenix Rise Artworks.
Rest Awhile On Your Journey
From 'Phoenix Rise Artworks' turn right on to Albion Hill and turn left at Lewes Road.
Continue straight on to Richmond Place and then turn left at Richmond Parade.
Walk up the hill where you will find 'Rest Awhile on Your Journey', a bright orange wave shaped bench.
Rocket
From 'Rest Awhile on Your Journey' walk back down Richmond Parade and turn left onto Grand Parade.
Continue straight, cross Edward Street on to Pavilion Parade where in the Glass Pavilion on your left you will find 'Rocket'.
Patching Lodge-Gates and Railings
From 'Rocket' head towards Edward Street which is to the left of the Glass Pavilion.
Cross over and continue straight on Edward Street which turns in to Eastern Road, continue straight until you pass Park Street.
On your left and just before you get to Freshfield Road you will see Patching Lodge Gates and Railings, the ornamental entrance gates that run for 102 meters along the entrance to the housing development.
The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital Artworks
From Patching Lodge-Gates and Railings continue along Eastern Road staying on the left-hand side until you come to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Enter the main hospital entrance, following signs for the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and the artworks.
Kidney Unit Artworks
Exit The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and turn right, keep walking straight ahead until you see signs for The Kidney Unit on your left.
Walk through the entrance doors where you will find the decorated lifts and ceiling artwork of The Kidney Unit.
Homeostasis
From The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital head back to the hospital entrance and exit back on to Eastern Road, turn left and cross over Eastern Road at the traffic lights.
Turn left and enter The Audrey Emerton Education Centre where you will find Homeostasis, a cast glass wall sculpture situated in the foyer.
Whitehorses and Gates
From Homeostasis turn right and continue straight on Eastern Road.
Cross and turn left at Church Place and then right at Bristol Gardens.
Turn left onto Whitehawk Road and continue straight up onto Whitehawk Way.
Turn right on to Wiston Way and Sompting Close where you find the sculptural White horses at the entrance and a series of personalised house gates around the estate.
This last step is the longest walk within the trail but is easily accessible on the bus.
From the Aubrey Emerton Education Centre, cross over Eastern Road to the County Hospital bus stop and get on bus number 1 or 1A to Whitehawk.
Stay on the bus all the way up Whitehawk Road and get off at stop Coolham Drive. Turn left and walk on to Wiston Way.
The number 1 or 1A to Mile Oak travels all the way back to Brighton town centre.
