Public Art: The Kidney Unit

The work was designed and installed by Christian Funnell and Eric Bates as part of the development of a new kidney unit for Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals Trust. Located in the entrance foyer, the aluminium ceiling is decorated with circular and semi-circular inserts printed with a floral design.

The lift panels are brushed stainless steel, with a mixed textured pattern so that regular visitors to the unit will always be able to pick out something different in the design. The artwork was designed to be calm and pleasing to the eye and seen by all those entering the unit in a hospital trolley.
