The 'Airfix Gate' was designed and made by local artist Christian Funnell for a commission as part of a new development of flats on Pelham Terrace. The pastel blue gates are a large version of an 'Airfix Model' female figure. She is dressed in 1930's dress with segments of a plane, such as a propeller and a wing. The gates sit between the new Pelham Terrace development and a beautiful Art Deco building and reference both of these times in its design.
Some of Funnell's other public artworks in the city include the 'Taj Gates' on Montpelier Road and the 'Avalon Gate' on West Street. For more information on Funnell's work go to www.christianfunnell.com.
