Safe and Well at School Survey
The Safe and Well at School Survey (SAWSS) is an anonymous online survey conducted by the Brighton & Hove City Council Public Health team. The survey is conducted every second year in partnership with the University of Sussex, covering primary and secondary schools across the city.

Health Counts survey
The Health Counts Survey 2024 provides data on a range of health topics and lifestyles, and it includes validated measures and questions that are comparable with previous surveys.
Health Counts is funded by Brighton & Hove City Council’s Public Health Department. The University of Brighton is leading it in collaboration with:
- Healthwatch Brighton and Hove
- NHS Sussex
- Brighton and Sussex Medical School
- the Brighton and Hove Federation

Research Ready Communities: Brighton and Hove
The Research Ready Communities project empowered local residents to lead health and wellbeing research rooted in their lived experiences, in partnership with:
- the Sussex Research Engagement Network (REN)
- The Hangleton and Knoll Project
- Trust for Developing Communities
- Healthwatch Brighton and Hove
The community researchers developed and explored key questions using data from the Health Counts 2024 survey.

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller health needs and assets
Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT) are leading a participatory action research project using qualitative methods and a co-production approach. FFT are working with researcher partners at the Institute of Development Studies and the Brighton and Hove City Council Public Health team.
This needs assessment has been funded by the Brighton and Hove City Council Public Health team.
