Preparing for an interview
This guidance will help you prepare for an interview with Brighton & Hove City Council.
Arranging your interview
If your application is successful, we'll invite you to attend an online (by Teams) or face-to-face interview. We'll send you details before your interview.
The interview date is usually a week after we send you an email. This should give you enough time to make arrangements to attend. The dates we plan to interview are often included in the job advert.
Getting ready for your interview
The interviewers will ask you questions to help them decide if you're right for the job. You may also need to complete an exercise or give a presentation. We'll tell you more about this in the invitation email.
Prepare for your interview by re-reading the job advert, the job description and person specification and your application.
Think about what skills the hiring manager is looking for and how your qualifications, experience and abilities meet the job requirements. You'll need to expand on the points you've already mentioned in your application.
You can plan answers to possible interview questions using the STAR model. You can take notes into the interview.
The interviewers will try to make the interview as comfortable as possible, so you feel relaxed and able to perform at your best.
You'll have a chance to ask questions at the end. The interviewers will let you know when you're likely to hear if you have been offered the job.
We want to make sure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible to all our applicants and candidates and can make a wide range of adjustments to support you. If you need us to make any adjustments, please let the recruiting manager know before the interview.
