About Brighton & Hove
Brighton & Hove is a diverse, creative and iconic coastal city. It’s a place our residents, workforce, businesses and visitors care deeply about.
With rich cultural assets and a vibrant community spirit, the success of our city masks complex social challenges related to poverty, inequality and fairness that demand courageous leadership and fresh thinking. Our leadership team is united in tackling these challenges head-on, backed by an ambitious transformation programme and a commitment to innovation.
Brighton & Hove City Council is an exciting and vibrant place to work in public health. We have a reputation for delivering innovative approaches and helping to make health and wellbeing everyone’s business. Our administration has a strong political majority for the first time in 2 decades. We are determined to grip and tackle the issues our residents are facing.
You’ll help us to embed our learning organisation culture, which promotes collaboration, connection, innovation, diversity and inclusion, and staff wellbeing. Our vision is a better Brighton & Hove for all – where ‘making the healthy choice is the easiest choice’, which in turn leads to happier, healthier lives for our residents.
In this key role, collaboration with colleagues, NHS partners, communities, and the people of Brighton & Hove will be essential to turn this vision into reality, across our diverse and dynamic city.
About the role
As a Director of Public Health, you’ll join the Families, Children and Wellbeing Directorate leadership team, focusing on early and positive outcomes for health and wellbeing across the city.
You will also be a statutory chief officer and the council’s principal adviser on all public health matters, working closely with the Corporate Leadership Team, the Chief Executive, and elected members.
As a leader, you will play a critical role in working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders to:
- drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of local residents
- reduce inequalities in health outcomes
- work in collaboration with UKHSA to protect local communities from threats to their health
- be an influential leader across the Sussex Integrated Health and Care System
If you share our vision for a better Brighton & Hove for all, we'd love to hear from you.
