Job introduction

A great opportunity for Plumbing level 2 Apprentice to join BHCC new repairs and maintenance team based in the Housing Neighborhood and Communities directorate.

Brighton & Hove City Council’s new housing repairs and maintenance service have an exciting opportunity for 10 Plumbing level 2 Apprentices in. The Department is responsible for the maintenance and Repairs of the council housing stock.

The Plumbing Apprenticeship at level 2 is run by Steve Willis Training who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your apprenticeship. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

The duration of the apprenticeship will be 18 months. This may be amended should you have any applicable prior learning.

42.5 hours per week (8am - 5pm Monday - Friday) with 30 min break for lunch.

Basic salary - £12,443.89, you will be paid 5.5 hours of contracted overtime per week at £2,774.65 per annum, totalling the salary above.

About the role

Apprentices will gain knowledge in Basic Plumbing and will learn to carry out a range of plumbing and domestic repairs and installations in occupied and empty properties in line with current legislative standards, performance standards and in accordance with the Council procedures under the guidance of qualified trade employees suited to the current level of training and development.

This will include; install pipes, fixtures, such as sinks, basins and baths and install the supports, and equipment prior to installation. Cutting pipework to exact specification, soldering and bending pipework and assembling fittings relevant to the task.

Apprentices without evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System.
