This is an exciting opportunity to join a service that has a direct influence on the way people live and work around Brighton & Hove. We are one of the busiest unitary Authorities outside London and this role will be central to dealing with flood risk management within the city.
We are looking to recruit a Flood Risk manager to ensure that Brighton and Hove City Council meet their statutory responsibilities as a Lead Local Flood Authority.

We would love you to bring your skills, knowledge, and experience to:

To deliver our strategic plan for the next five years to provide flood risk management to the city as a whole.

Provide support to the community in respect of flood and water related matters, responding to councillor and customer queries on such matters.

Provide support and technical advice to Planning Services as part of their work in validating, assessing and determining planning applications, pre-application queries, planning enforcement and defending decisions at appeal.

Provide support to other parts of the Council in order to reduce and where possible prevent flooding events, to provide technical advice in respect of other council work as far as drainage and flooding is concerned.

Apply for related grants in support of work to prevent and reduce flooding and sustainable urban drainage.

Work closely with key stakeholders including Other departments within the Council, our neighbouring county councils, Southern Water and the Environment Agency to investigate flooding and take enforcement action

Work with key stakeholders to create a safer place for the residents and visitors to Brighton and Hove, whilst achieving the City’s aspiration of achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2030.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Part office / part home – hybrid - We offer the opportunity for the suitable candidate to choose to work in a hybrid way. Your specific working arrangements will be subject to team and service working arrangements already in place alongside Government guidance. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
